What do you see as a solution?
I also inquired about this... I have heard through several sources, that I will not name, that our water department nets about 2 million dollars a year profit on the water. I am curious if that is indeed true and of course that includes water and sewage combined.
Another secret ???
Does anybody out there have an answer to this question and can you cite a firm source that is proof of that fact or not either way I just would like a confirmation.
Another point... a side topic... for years I have asked you the owner is of our local hospital but nobody ever answers that either and I know that that is an out of country business license. I know a local attorney in town pretty well that's very curious about this too and he can't even find the answer which I find very odd. Barry Ronan wouldn't answer me, none if my Drs. associated with this organization do either! Nobody knows or cannot tell!!! Their (WMHS, and please Lord tell me I'm wrong... I'd love to be wrong) no compete clause stymies our competitive capatalstic nature that should flourish here and we could easily have had a VA hospital here, not to compete, but to compliment our Health Care here... But instead of giving away that site... which we traded 1/3 of our largest park for... Constitution Park... See the irony !!!... What a friggin' joke... That alone is a disservice to the citizens in the really oughta be illegal and I wonder if there could possibly be any type of criminal culpability there (the "trading"away to a foreign entity... our park land)... even as often times these publicly owned (public owned tax payer property run or governed by the city) are protected... but in this day and age, well, nothing is protected!
We have had problems with the stewardship of our money in the past on several occasions and some of it has cost us millions of dollars already that would have been money spent better elsewhere and I just hope at least we are in better shape than we used to be.
The problem with money in the past that was a big glaring issue that I wrote in my blog about that I've never seen anybody else cover was the heating system installed at Memorial Hospital, which then became a burden financially to the city and was subsequently tore down at an even larger cost and unless that bill has been paid it was a 20 year loan which means we are still paying on it and for what? And where did all that go... SCRAP !!! SOMEBODY MADE BANK NO DOUBT !!!
That brings up the next point of topic that is along the same lines.
A short while ago (2-3 YEARS) it was reported in the CTN that the city was finally in the black... having been in the red for ages, now the county thinks we should give up our City status because we lack a decent tax base and are now in need of money, once again.
What is the real deal here as far as accounting goes and why are things so up and down if we were in the black it would seem like we would still be in the black because we would have been on course to maintain positive track record.
I'm not trying to cause turmoil in our city but I would like answers and they are never forthcoming quickly. Sometimes, the only way to start getting answers of calling people out and if I have to be a jerk I will no problem because everybody knows I am anyway.
I'm tired of lots of wasted time and energy and progress that never comes quick enough and then we get slapped in the face with stuff like this that are massive unexpected bills that we just cannot afford !
It would be nice in the article like this to have a long list of all the different available resources that we tried to find funding through as well because it sure seems to me like the Army Corps of Engineers might be interested in this since they designed and built to Wills Creek Levee system or flood control system I should say, that runs into the Potomac River. This is the type of project that might be incorporated into and Riverfront Park as has so long been touted as well as the removal of the blue Bridge damn but there's just never this overall kind of planning in place and I don't understand it... but I guess I never will.
Well that's enough topics for one day but I could go on for hours !!!
The worst thing about being negative is that most people don't want to engage and have any feedback in a thread that I start off like this but are these not the facts?
I write things in my blog and it takes 3 to 5 years before any excellent ideas I have ever come to fruition and I have shared many many ideas over the years that I have lived here since 2001.
I don't say that to toot my own horn I say that because I just can't help to try to continue to think about ideas that are going to help this area and I just see that there has never ever been an overall cohesive plan and it looks like there never will be. Indeed that very topic I wrote about in my blog before I ever saw it published anywhere else and then it was a couple of years later that it was let's say picked up or borrowed like so often.
The high school what a joke he's going to flip all these bills I want to know that when we have a dying City with a shrinking tax base or is there some surprise news that I don't know about?
Now we have legalized marijuana in the state of Maryland but Jeff sessions is about ready to reel that fish into so you see we can't plan on anything here that we can count on ever because we don't have good planning we just throw the dice.
We have some of the most dedicated wonderful people in this area working for the city and working for the county but I just don't understand why we can't get this place up to Snuff the way it oughta be and I'm just sick and tired of it.
I'd really like to run for mayor and I have indeed stated that I will, however I hope that I will not because I also stated I will not run in opposition to Brian Grimm, Who I personally think he's done a phenomenal job and I really really hope we'll stay on for 4 more years because we need him.
Some people might say it's his leadership that's got us in this jackpot but I completely disagree with that as I have seen nothing but an upward growth Since he has been our mayor and before that that was definitely not the case whatsoever.
It's a fact that we do not even have all the maps to all the sewage systems underneath this city and we don't know what was updated when and these problems are only going to pile up more and more so and going to cost us more and more and more money that we just do not have !!!
With full-time problems, why do we only pay our mayor part-time wages of $7,900 a year ??? ... if I'm not mistaken???
I guarantee you Brian Grimm has put far more than 40 hours a week into his job, and he has other jobs too. I'll just tell you right now you will not get that dedication from me and I don't think you will from anybody else either. The job needs to be a full-time job and it needs to be compensated as such or else we will just stay a couple of decades behind the curve forever.
If we have to twist his arm and pay him $30,000 a year I think we need to pass that legislation or act or whatever it takes on a local level immediately. We need somebody who can focus all of their energies into the job of Mayor and not have to have other jobs and perhaps make it so that they cannot even have another job, as often in a professional environment you're not supposed to Moonlight as they call it because it is a distraction from the overall goal in when it company push their faith and invest their hard-earned money into their employees they expect the fair return and we two should run the city as a business in that regard, although not in all regards because things such as Services, has the water I mentioned above, should be services not-for-profits.
These are things that have been on my mind for a long time and that is why I have wanted to run for mayor because I do care but I think I am really just more effective as a voice that says things like I see it and again, I'm not trying to be offensive but somebody has to speak up and I don't hear these topics discussed often enough.
The clock keeps on ticking, the culture keeps getting worse, the crime keeps getting worse, the heroin epidemic keeps getting worse, and where does it all lead ?
I sure wish the problems would just pour out of this city like the sewage does and its related stench!
If I irked you speak up, if I irked you think out of the box and please write your newspaper cited below, if I irked you, then please run for office but please don't change your last name to D'Atri, like somebody suggested to me if I run... and please don't run out and join the largest church like somebody suggested to me, the same person, if I run.
The state of politics today absolutely disgusts me and it's that reason more than anything I think I just don't want to run because I don't want to be around people that disgust me as such. If I run for mayor I'm not trying to lie about who I am or what I am and I certainly am not trying to gain anything for myself. I have an old fashioned attitude where you serve your community and then you step aside and you let somebody else to do it when somebody is qualified enough to do so, which is not always the case today, however, politics was never originally meant to be a full-time occupation or a profession, it was to serve your country, your state, your community, etc.
It's a tall order to think that we all might ever be on the same page again however I do see a lot of beacons with the younger generation and I am proud of them for having to work through what little was given them here, however nothing will motivate one like suffering, ... If it doesn't do you in first.
With as much money that's going to be spent on sewage and an old heating system that doesn't even exist anymore but hasn't been paid for what's wrong with throwing some more Dice and putting some money into the cryptocurrency market? At least there might be some promised that way.
This isn't to parts and directly below is the link to part 2...
