Steeples Across the Horizon ~ A Scenic CityScape Masterpiece ~ of ~ The Queen City of Cumberland, Maryland

Steeples Across the Horizon

A Scenic CityScape Masterpiece

The Queen City of  Cumberland, Maryland

by: John Stephen Swygert

Included herein will be a historical and pictorial article all about the plentiful churches full of history all through our Queen City of Cumberland, Maryland.

I will first cover the churches whose steeples dot the horizon and include up close shots of each with a detailed history of those churches, as well as other churches in the area and as much history as I can gather about them as well.

This, like many of my works, will be a work in progress and I welcome any suggestions, additions, pictures, historical facts, or anything else that may make for an even better representation of our treasured town cradled in the mountains of Western Maryland.

Here are two views of far off steeples that are on the horizon of Cumberland's CityScape, and those churches are featured herein.

These pictures were taken from a porch in The Decatur Heights District and offer a stunning view.

In general, the steeples or spires that dot the scenic horizon and can be so easily seen across Cumberland's CityScape are from these seven churches.

I also intend on adding more pictures from inside the churches, as well as interview quotes, and other churches that do not have steeples or spires, and as I add that information, this article will indeed remain intact as is, and I will simply publish a link below this sentence in the future to the next blog page featuring more of these beautiful historical places of worship.

For example, did you know that Emmanuel Episcopal Church on Washington Street has Tiffany stained glass windows?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emmanuel_Episcopal_Church_(Cumberland,_Maryland)...or did you know it was the Northern terminus to the "underground railroad"?
http://www.whilbr.org/itemdetail.aspx?idEntry=3275

I will be researching history of many of the area churches, time permitting, and adding any information that I can be it from personal stories, history books, newspaper articles, etc.

It has been ancient lore in these foothills that there are more churches here per capita then any city in the United States!

Peering across the skyline, and looking roughly from the South/West to the North/East, I will name the steeples as they appear in a picture I will enclose below.

Decatur Heights Historic District

The Decatur Heights Historic District is a national historic district in CumberlandAllegany County, Maryland. It a mixed-use district of 77 acres (310,000 m2) located on the northeast side of Cumberland. It contains a total of 377 residential / commercial / industrial historic resources, including five properties previously listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Approximately 50 percent of the resources in the district predate 1890, approximately 40 percent date were constructed between 1890 and 1930, and the remaining approximately 10 percent post-date 1930. It is significant because: 1) its association with the history of African-American education in Cumberland; 2) its association with the exploration and settlement of the region, with its location along the National Road; and 3) the dense concentration of primarily residential buildings built between about 1820 and the 1940s.[2]
It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.[1]

The Media Paradigm Shift ~ Cutting the Cord and Streaming Digital Devices ~ Aereo ~ NetFlix ~ HuluPlus

It is time for change and time also to do some Math for your pocketbook!

Most cable providers offers a channel package and internet in the roughly $ 125 per month range on average, that also uses equipment that is very outdated, and even limiting at times to video or connection quality.

These are the basics to consider:

Price
Equipment or Technology Relevence Curve
Quality
Space (both Physical and Storage)
Power Consumption

With the advent of modern cloud computing, and quantum computing well into the works, what we are finding is that we are able to get a faster "stream" of data with a higher resolution at a cheaper price then most all cable providers can offer or compete with today.

All the while keeping up more easily with state of the art portable equipment that takes up less space where it is utilized, and also providing the ability to do away with DVD's as we have done with VHS tapes for the most part already, makes this an even easier decision.

Perhaps the last but finest feature is that we are able to do this and consume even less energy then we once did, therefore, leaving behind an even smaller carbon footprint on out planet, Mother Earth.

For example, I am a cord cutter, which means that I have no "traditional television" programming in my home, but what I do have is a cellular account with a Galaxy S3 that is my homes hot spot for WiFi (or wherever else I may be at any given moment) and with these savings I am able to spend that on a better television which provides a better picture, less energy consumption, and finer built in technology.

Another example, is that with my economic savings, by "paying myself" when budgeting, I will next be purchasing a "Smart TV", which is simply a unit more compatible with my "Smart Phone" and will even more easily make all of this state of the art technology work well together and with the greatest of ease as well.

I no longer need to store DVD's or VHS tapes that take up entirely too much room, and why own a DVD when we watch them maybe a few times just to have them sit around on a shelf for years afterward, once the      novelty has worn off.

I no longer utilize and "old school" CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) devices, however I do utilize laptops, small compact computers, tablets, and of course the very common smart phone.

A smart buyer uses purchasing power and education about available services combined to make smarter choices, and if you are savvy, you can have the best of both worlds, and that is newer technology and a smaller bill each month, or perhaps if you are very savvy, no bill once the devices are paid for.

With my cell provider, I have a 4G LTE network (and the signal is strong at my home and that is an imperative).

I have my smart phone to go with me everywhere, and on my plan, for an extra $ 10 per month, I added another line and bought another phone.

That second phone act as my dedicated WiFi at home for other residents of the house, my family.

I currently own a Roku and stream paid services such as Netflix and Hulu Plus, along with Crackle and others free channels that has a growing list daily.

A current draw back is no local coverage, but that is swiftly changing with the likes of the business model rolled out by Aereo, which is expanding its  coverage on a daily basis, and has through the Federal Courts on an April 1st, 2013 ruling been given the green light to conduct business as they have been.

I was going to install an antenna to stream some digital local packages, however that looks to be a waste of money at this crossroads today, as you can see what is coming soon if you just explore the link below and also read the recent decision made by the Federal Courts.

https://www.aereo.com/

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/07/zero-tv_n_3033047.html?utm_hp_ref=technology

This has put pressure on the major networks, Fox, CBS, NBC, and ABC to shift gears, and as usual, these less tech savvy companies are getting a thorough ass kicking, as they have tried long enough to dictate what we will watch and when and what we should by and why.

The people are speaking like never before and we do it by the way we choose to spend our money and we drive the market places when we make better decisions like we have started to as I have set forth herein.

Cut the cord!!!

Most folks are scared to change and hold on to old habits far to long!

I ask you, why would you choose to be tethered to a larger bill with poor quality service when you can make wiser decisions and cut the cord today and have pure freedom to watch what you like, when you like it, and all the while with less advertising?

The paradigm has shifted in a massive way, and the non competitors are getting swept under or are already swept under the carpet!

If the major networks cannot play ball on the new playing field, I for one could care less if they succumb to their poor decisions and hope they will fade away, as for far too long they have been the media moguls  pushing slanted angels in their newsrooms and further dividing us all politically with their divisive advertising, news, and programming.

This is the exact nature of a well spirited free enterprise system in capitalism.

Where, the better comes along to replace the old, and the old dies off if it is not able to modify and change to the new ways of conducting business.

Do yourself a favor, and make the switch today if you have a good signal ($G LTE) at your home, and never once think about looking back.

The signal strength cannot be overlooked, or you will be in for a huge letdown!

The bottom line question you have to ask yourself is a pure no-brainer.

Do you want more or less for your money?

I choose more, as long as it is supportive of our economy, and I mean most especially the economy at home.

Now, thinking along those lines, I wold like to see more emphasis about how these decisions which many are making today will put more folks back to work, and place less cash in the corporate pockets.

Profit is one thing but hoarding money and removing it from the marketplace is a completely different beast we see all too common with many large corporations too often today.

For example, I am all for tax breaks when these large corporations invest in the infrastructure and build a better economy, a better nation, and place more workers back into the market place, however on the other side of that coin, I think there should be massive penalties if they "hide" those monies in off shore accounts, or just sit on it and do not reinvest.

One place this has an immediate impact is it puts the power in the hands of the citizens, and that power is in the form of cold hard cash, and that always immediately shapes and mold any marketplace!

That cash should be spent buying products on a local level, a state level, and then a national level where ever you live, because it is extremely important that sovereignty is preserved in this capitalistic modern day market place.

Is local, state, and federal government listening up?

That money can be saved in many of those budgets as well, where we are seeing massive cuts today!

The paradigm has shifted faster then the mechanism that drives it has the ability to adapt to it!

We are deeper into The Green Era everyday, and these are all considerations upon us each.

The best decision making toolbox is always full of education, so read what you will from valid sources and become more savvy today and everyday, making better decisions for yourself, the environment, your family, and our collective future, and start today with cutting the cord.

Soon, Google will have a network for free WiFi nationwide!

How are you going to ready to utilize that kind of power to better your home and work environment?

The next phase will be no cellular bills, no cable bills, but just monthly nominal fees for the services you desire, not a packaged bundle rammed down your financial throat, no more contracts for service!

Again, I cannot emphasize enough, plan ahead!

The best way to plan ahead is by reading and educating yourself today so that you will have the vision to see what is coming towards you tomorrow while the landscape of the marketplace traverses this paradigm shift, one like we have never seen before in our lifetimes, and may never see again.

I could go on and on, but I have covered most of this in my blog well before it ever hit the main stream media... years before in many cases... or elsewhere where I have been published.

I am much more pleased with my new better more efficient technology and a smaller monthly bill, after all, who wouldn't be?

Why not make that shift today yourself and use your money and actions to speak loud and clear, as most of us have already been doing?

Filet Mignon and White Bean Chow ~ "SPICE IT UP" with Steve ~ Recipe

SPICE IT UP

White Beans and Filet Mignon Recipe

by: John Stephen Swygert

Patience and cooking properly pays with great dividends to the palette, physique, and perspective.

Enjoy this meal and play with the art of cooking to make it, this recipe and others, your very own.

Using white beans also known as navy beans, and they must start as dried beans to soak and use or else this recipe is worthless, because it utilizes the chemistry in that very reaction itself to make this complete meal that tickles the taste buds so, and never better then on a coll morning or evening.

Before reading this...do not think of the time factor as listed as restrictive as it sounds overly extra demanding.

Rather, simply think of the safe and efficient crock pot to complete the timing as you busily with energy...because you have fueled and exercised well...go about life's tasks and pleasures...and use this tool to fill the gaps in time all the while a master piece is in the making...it really takes organization and a schedule and this meal is cooked in actual hands on time of perhaps no more then 30 minutes concerning your actual time on hand.

Ingredients:

1 bag of dried organic navy beans
2 Cloves of organic garlic
1 tsp. of SEA salt
Basil to taste
Celery seed to taste
Sage (ground) to taste
1 pound of grain fed non GMO filet mignon
1/4 pound of Muenster Cheese (or whatever soft friendly cheese you enjoy)

Directions:

Using your favorite stewing pot, soak the beans in water that submerses them in 3-4 inches over the top of the beans themselves.

Soak 24 hours at 70 degrees or less for ideal taste and chemical reaction

Once beans percolate a bit of gas, or smell a tad putrid (only a mere tad), rinse and fill with fresh water after a very thorough rinsing in a colander.

Repeat over the next 24 hours

Now with the new water, add 1 tsp. of salt and cook on low heat all day long, adding water as needed.

Letting the broth slowly thicken over the next 24 hours of cooking on low heat and adding only the water needed to keep them submerged at the same lever of 3-4 inches

add two cloves of fresh diced garlic

now to taste, add your celery seed, basil, and sage

STEP 2

Cook your filet mignon in any way you most enjoy it and make it perfect to your desires.

Dice the steak in dice size cubes, think classic monopoly size dice, the perfect delicate mouth watering size.

At the very end of cooking, add the steak and turn heat off and let cool while stirring all the while.

A dash of cream may be the perfect compliment to this chow if your mouth is watering as you read this, use your taste buds as your guide.

I enjoy adding the steak at the end while the beans cool because the tastes stay individual enough and are mouth watering when eaten in this chow together.

Most importantly find the balance in your new impeccable meal that suits your own personal tastes.

May I also suggest this as a moderate sized bowl and as a main course, complimented with a plate of spinach and ginger, honey, mustard and olive oil dressing drizzled over top to your tastes once again, with as many herbs as you desire, your individual desires to "spice it up" to both release the essence of the flavors while complimenting your health and then lastly on the plate.

Either topped off with Muenster Cheese and "spice it up" just right for a main meal again, or served on the side with...well, use your imagination.

For example, a white albacore tuna salad, a shrimp salad, or a real crab meat salad (recipes to follow).

Decorate it all with fresh grown sprigs of mint and parsley to consume, not stare at and throw away like far too many garnishes.

Often times I observe the best part of many meals, the healthy fresh garnishes, simply cast aside and thrown away, and it quite disgusts me personally.

So use any fresh digs from your herb or vegetable garden and eat them and artfully decorate this wonderful meal.

Wash this appetizing dinner down with Merlot, Guinness, or a glass of cold iced tea or lemon aide.

Chemistry in nutrition...

Soaking the beans allows the gases naturally produced to be emitted before consumption, much more pleasant then the alternative!

Adding the steak last helps to hold the flavours separate, unless you care, like a great spaghetti sauce NOT GRAVY family recipe, to store in the fridge overnight to blend those flavours.

Merlot (as well as other wines) helps with digestion, however if you have had digestive tract discomfort, try the lemonade with an open mind please...and here is why.

Counter intuitively, lemon aide actually helps to balance the bodies, not just the bloods, Ph balance so that we can promote a better Ph level entirely through out, and offer less of a welcoming host we are all tot often providing in the atmosphere we create through poor nutrition that is conducive for cancers, viruses, and bacteria to thrive in.

Read this informative article below please...this is only an excerpt.

Alkaline Diet: What to Know Before Trying It

By Sonya Collins
WebMD Feature
Reviewed by Louise Chang, MD

"Trying out the latest diet is practically an American pastime. The more health benefits the diet supposedly provides, the better. We don't just want to lose weight; we want to cure arthritisdiabetes, and cancer, and slow the aging process, too. Some web sites touting the alkaline diet claim it does all these things and more.
Is it true? Here's what you need to know.
First, some background information. Our pH is the measure of exactly how acidic or alkaline we are. A pH of 0 is completely acidic, and a pH of 14 completely alkaline. A pH of 7 is neutral.
You don't just have one pH level. For example, the stomach has a pH ranging from 1.35-3.5. It must be acidic to aid in digestion. However, blood must always be slightly alkaline, with a pH of 7.35 to 7.45.
The theory of the alkaline diet is that eating certain foods can help maintain the body's ideal pH balance to improve overall health. But the body maintains its pH balance regardless of diet.
For instance, your diet may affect the pH level of your urine. But what you eat does not determine your blood's pH level."

also read here as well:

The most important chemistry in our digestive system happens within the body, however proper food nutrition choices in our diet, knowing our own personal diet stressors, and learning a new invigorating way to eat as well as more importantly prepare and balance our meals has always, through time, proven to pave a road to better physical, mental, and spiritual health.

While the most important chemistry is within the body during absorption and digestion, we can take better measure with food preparation and ingredients as well that greatly aide in these areas as well as nutrition too of course, because a healthier digestive tract is always more easily able to absorb the vital essential nutrients we need to keep our bodies in tip top shape, and our energies are much better utilized when we have energy left to spend doing the things we love, and not spent trying to digest "Fake Food" hat is worthless and damaging to our digestive tract, and in turn our immune system and overall health.

Rosemary may be added into the beans for example, and fresh is better then dry because it contains more of the essential oils that are so healthy for our diets, and that general rule of thumb holds true for all herbs and spices, or any other food for that matter.

HOWEVER !!!

If yo use a lot of herbs when cooking, do your due diligence and study them well for their benefits and SPEAK WITH YOUR DOCTOR about any possible medicine interactions. Often times these foods and additions can change the bodies absorption ability and/or may inter react with these medicines.

The more you study these herbs and know them well in your mind's recall, you will further connect to your innate cravings and more and more intuitively know what your body needs as it is being fueled and therefore, with proper nutrition as well as a complimentary exercise program, youthful vigor may and always does return while angst and frustration will melt away like fat so long a passenger to our vessels yet rarely truly a friend.

The slow cooking recipe (a crock pot is safest and ideal) lets the proper chemistry occur with the ingredients so that the essentials of those ingredients are better preserved for our own health as opposed to having been cooked off...it also purges the recipe of the unwanted bi-products before consumption

Ultimately, we would all eat better and stay healthier if we cooked more at home, demanded fresher, safer foods with better labeling, and ultimately, better understood proper nutrition at the essential levels as well as studied some human immuno-biology.

Socrates was quoted as having said all disease essentially starts in the gut, and I do so believe this is true today, and even more acceptable then ever as we better and better understand all of these internal mechanisms and effects.

Most of all on the bottom line, the art and joy of cooking should be practiced and so consumed daily, and be most appealing to the food centers soul, becoming more and more rewarding, enticing, and ultimately culminating to a point of desire to eat well and nutritiously and never feel as though you are missing any of the modern day frankenfoods, we should all boycott.

Will you now prefer a fresh made wholesome home made meal of your desires and artful skills or...well, ... a greasy animal fat filled cow burger on GMO grain bread, with an animal based mayonaise spead of 100% fat, along with veggies that are treated with chemicals and stripped of nutrients as well as GMO, all together an antibiotic filled cesspool with no real balance for personal fueling and proper nutrition...yeah, with a side of oily GMO fries...or...

Listening to your body and being a little wiser yet again today...pass on the gluttony please... and listening again to your body, paying attention to what your vessel needs and calls for...make the time to educate yourself about nutrition as well as take the time to enjoy the art and love of fine cooking.

Nutrition is never a closed subject, but rather something dynamic, as it is always changing with new foods being introduced from other cultures, new recipes available daily,  and also far too many new chemicals that are not natural, and now the advent of frankenfoods...foods engineered most often for cash money and not personal health and well being !!!

If I chemically, or genetically, or more insanely, was able to modify in a lab the liquid chemical mercury, a very toxic heavy metal we can get from contaminated tuna, however I was able to make it taste like lobster bisque, filet mignon, and the finest merlot and it cost only $ 1.00 per pound...Would you eat it if it tasted and looked like the original or even better in the mind...because like MSG these chemicals trick the made chemically into wanting more of the same garbage.

The truth is that most of us are eating fake frankenfoods aleady today!!!

Some of these things are non GMO as well...so buyer beware and read your labels, but also demand that the labels are better and better with more truthful information.

The fact is this...the F.D.A. is in bed with the Corporations and breeding a new legacy of poison for us all to consume.

Natural beans dried and soaked until lightly fermented before cooking are super healthy and easier to digest and aide in the bodies ability to absorb vital nutrients as well as build an even stronger immune system.

Grain raised natural beef for the non vegans is a much healthier choice, then GMO cows fed GMO foods.

Natural herbs, especially grown in your home garden, provide much more of the essential oils and other nutrients that are vital to good health not to mention they can compliment any dish with impeccable savory flavours.

Try your best to consume foods with no bleach or alternatives. Such as substituting raw cane sugar for white table sugar, or using non bleached wheat, or even better this wheat which is natural and more easily absorbed and digested by the body, as it has been around for thousands of years and is still the same breed and is better suited for our bodies to consume and utilize, as the fake grains today are really not at all suitable for human consumption.

Here is an excellent example of an excellent wheat that is an alternative for many folks, it is called "Einkorn Wheat" and is an ancient wheat that has not become a hybrid or a GMO wheat.

"Einkorn wheat was one of the earliest cultivated forms of wheat, alongside emmer wheat (T. dicoccum). Grains of wild einkorn have been found in Epi-Paleolithic sites of the Fertile Crescent. It was first domesticated approximately 7500 BC (7050 BC ≈ 9000 BP), in the Pre-Pottery Neolithic A (PPNA) or B (PPNB) periods.[1] Evidence from DNA finger-printing suggests einkorn was domesticated near Karaca DaÄŸ in southeast Turkey, an area in which a number of PPNB farming villages have been found.[2] Its cultivation decreased in the Bronze Age, and today it is a relict crop that is rarely planted, though it has found a new market as a health food. It remains as a local crop, often for bulgur (cracked wheat) or as animal feed, in mountainous areas of FranceMorocco, the former YugoslaviaTurkey and other countries. It often survives on poor soils where other species of wheat fail.[3]"

https://www.facebook.com/einkorn

I placed a few tid-bits here to get your mind thinking and give you a catalyst to get started exploring and learning about proper nutrition and I hope it gives you a fine start.

Often, too many of us do not consider nutrition as a part of our health and healing, and if you are suffering from any illness or illnesses, and are especially befuddled because these brilliant doctors have a hard time diagnosing you but keep adding medicine to your healing regime, I suggest you look at the fuel you place in your life tank and start making better and better decisions.

It is easy for a doctor to write a prescription for big pharma, which pads their pockets all too well, however the advice they should more caringly and candidly be giving is about how to exercise and eat properly and avoid the drug machine all together when ever possible!

Well, what do you expect versus what do you accept?

Off to try a version of a bowl of this white beans delicacy right now!!!

Finally, what do you chose, because it is your decision...real live healthy food ...?...or...synthetic taste alikes???

These beans are tasty, healthy, and excellent for and easy on the body too.

The best recipes are worthless when not complimented by the proper healthy sides and drinks, so keep that in mind while you, "SPICE IT UP" in the kitchen, with your host Steve.

Google Weather ~ Army Corps of Engineers ~ Cumberland, Maryland ~ by: John Stephen Swygert

"Google Weather" (?)

by: John Stephen Swygert

As I personally envision the future and the changing weather patterns, Smart Technology, and The Green Era philosophy, I simply hope Google will consider my idea as outlined very loosely below.

I also hope you, the reader, will enjoy the other articles and facts I have included, and would appreciate any feedback or addition you may think would be of benefit to this article.

Enclosed herein is my idea, as well as some valuable information and links concerning changing weather and The Army Corps of Engineers, and other issues of importance.

Here is a wonderful fun scientific life changing idea perhaps, for each of us.

If Google decided to engineer Smart Weather Stations, and distribute them for free, and pay a minimum installation fee to the new owner who received and installed the antennas, and it was limited to individuals, not corporations, that (the individuals) install themselves or have the unit installed by a team of Certified Technology Instrumentation  Installers, and was able to become a unit that could produce funds in the near future of the business plan, this could revolutionize the science of weather or meteorology as we know it to exist today, as well as perhaps many other sciences where sensors are important to gather data sets.

Imagine now if you will a very soon to be future time where every home, or an excellent percentage thereof, of volunteer participants, agreed to have their free Smart Weather Station installed on there home, and it was running on a state of at least 4G LTE, or better network, depending upon the technological advances.

These stations, could do more then simply record only weather as well, we could even call them Sensor Mapping Android in Real Time (S.M.A.R.T.).

They could sense anything imagined, be it temperatures, wind speed and direction, altitude, air quality,  seismic activity, etc...

The next science would be born as we gathered this data and watched and analyzed it in real time and compared it to historical flow charts of recorded data streaming versus actual real time data sets while the changes were all taking place in real time.

We may find that certain wind patterns arise at many various times that could help us better forecast many scenarios, or at one single altitude and/or direction , for example, could mean that a certain weather event was imminent, and we could further make accurate projections about many types of weather events perhaps well before they actually occurred, thus giving even more time for preparation, and perhaps changing construction codes in certain areas where so needed, as recently printed in a great article I will leave a link to here.

Quote first:

Top Down Change

SnowstormFor the Army Corps of Engineers Hurricane Katrina was the wake up call to begin talking seriously about climate change, according to Senior Lead for Global and Climate Change Kathleen White. In addition to President Obama's 2009 Executive Order 13514, which requires federal agencies to mitigate climate change through the improvement of energy and water conservation and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, a policy for "mainstreaming" climate change adaptation has been adopted by the Corps.

As changes in climate become more severe, engineers are making an effort to prepare for the future.

I have met General Antwerp after he gave a speech.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_L._Van_Antwerp,_Jr.

This was about his life's work and the current pressures we face as a nation, and he spoke deeply about his work with the Corps of Engineers, most especially about the work being conducted in New Orleans.

It was an excellent speech and meeting my Father's friend was a highlight in my life, as my own Father is a Retired Colonel and Army Corps of Engineer officer as well.

I am not trying to shift the focus to The Army Corps of Engineers, however they have always been a group of professional military men and women whose projects are closely effected and affected by the phenomenon of weather, and in part, due to me having heard general Antwerp as well as reading the articles here so mentioned, it further projects to me why we need more localized weather stations and what a great asset they could truly be in so many ways.

And also once again, I say weather stations loosely, because what else could be complimenting these stations I have suggested is the ability to gather all types of other data sets as well that will be of the benefit to many sciences, and in turn our economy we are rebuilding with an emphasis on Green Era technology and efficiency, and ultimately the greatest benefit to the protection and enhancement of the lives of our citizens.

Here is a great Mission Statement and Vision Statement which is from and of The Army Corps of Engineers.

MISSION

Mission Statement: Provide vital public engineering services in peace and war to strengthen our Nation's security, energize the economy, and reduce risks from disasters.
Vision Statement: A GREAT engineering force of highly disciplined people working with our partners through disciplined thought and action to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions to the Nation's engineering challenges.

Here is an example of the Corps work in my very own hometown of Cumberland, Maryland.

Cumberland Blue Bridge

North Branch Potomac River Highway Bridge

A Cumberland landmark, the distinctive Blue Bridge crosses the North Branch Potomac from Cumberland to Ridgeley, West Virginia. The bridge consists of two steel arches and is 315 feet long. It was built in 1954 and painted bright blue--a color that has lasted for more than half a century. The Blue Bridge connects Md. 942, also know as Johnson Street, to alternate West Virginia Route 28. In 2010, the City of Cumberland and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began removal of a large industrial dam under the bridge to increase recreational use of the Potomac.
Several bridges cross the Potomac at Cumberland, Maryland, including State Road 28 and Bridge Street. In addition, Interstate 68 and U.S. 220 parallel the river along the Maryland shore.

The highlighted italics part I have shown above are still being investigated due to sediment pollution and other significant considerations, so I would not say that is an accurate statement as reported above.

Cumberland, MD Flood Mitigation

http://www.nab.usace.army.mil/Media/FactSheets/FactSheetArticleView/tabid/10470/Article/9204/cumberland-md-flood-mitigation.aspx

It further outlines many things to consider today while we go through these weather changes that are now finally irrefutable, regardless of what their causes may be.

We may further study oceanic flow combined with any other layer of data we so choose to seek patterns against with another and teach us things we may alone, without technological assistance, be able to more easily and efficiently determine before now.

A business model will of course follow that may include many things beneficial for all, for example, each owner could stream a television channel, an "Android Waves" musical channel, etc.

It could further be connected to your Google+ account and your free smart phone.

Your new smart phone would run on Google Laser Communications and be a portable tool, not just a weather station again perhaps sensing seismic activity, altitude, etc,.

It would act as an everyday modern Swiss army knife in a technological sense, however the Swiss Army Knife is always still irreplaceable by any enthusiast, because of its ease of versatility, precision craftsgendershipship, sturdy rugged design, quality material, and great years of service to deliver for years in the future, like mine always does.

With Google Security monitors as well, you would know at the very least that you had better vision and therefore safety afforded to you as you had better information entering most any situation as well as better information and actual manipulation of physical devices in the places dear to you such as your home for example, or your car perhaps, or anywhere else so desired, and I would suggest this all be built into one main unit or product so offered.

Back to meteorology for a while perhaps.

I enjoy meteorology immensely and am always willing to learn more so I can see further for myself.

I have had jobs that were effected by the weather, as well as homes, trips, family, plants, ad infinitum.

To better be "well prepared to protect" my own and others best interests beyond the egocentric worries all too common in life, I have watched weather often, studied it by myself, shared discussion and experiences with others, and looked for patterns or any other tell tale signs, the same as I have always enjoyed seismology, automotive mechanics, music, writing, and yes, even politics on occasion... and I have always been willing to do my best to analyze any system and learn it in real time with inherent flaws while comparing it to the ideal theology these systems are typically designed around.

blah, blah, blah...

So really, I have just wanted my own weather station for most of my adult life, and would thoroughly enjoy comparing and analyzing all of this data and better understand how we truly do effect nature around us as well as how it effects us in all we do living life together.

I hope Google will consider this idea, as they have the finest software at the lowest cost and with the advent of Smart phones, this would be an easy implementation into modern society, would not cost too much, and would be beneficial in a plethora or ways and areas.

Start your new career today and share your ideas with this new technology so that you can reinvent yourself perhaps in this modern day and age while we all transition into a more Green Era friendly environment that will leave us all less vulnerable, more productive, leaving behind less of a carbon footprint, promoting ideas and technology at home and abroad for an ever better growing Green Economy, and finally feeling great about doing your part sharing your ideas and making positive changes in the face of difficult times.
