Digital Davinci DeCoder ~ Lyrics ~ MobiusTripz

Digital Davinci DeCoder ~ Lyrics ~ MobiusTripz

Come fly through the cloud with me,
search our digital fantasy,
or is it a small part of reality,
one, two, or dimensions are we three?

or perhaps four, and even more,
our imaging today can see through to the core,
and further away then ever before,
molecular or stellar so much more coming in store.

Art can be made even when crippled in bed,
or sometimes when I walk well again sometimes, hiking instead,
music lives in each and every thought of my soul,
always seeking a place and time to match with a tune as I roll.

I rock and march to a different drummer instead,
rebellious it may appear and nutty at times,
but I just want to understand each of your perspectives,
so I can keep cranking out some rhymes.

Writing was all I ever wanted to do,
but I was young and lived life wild instead most of my time,
now older and wiser and time on a writer's side once again,
Uncorked as a fine aged wine.

I will speak out for what I believe,
and share what I have learned along the way,
and I will seek Justice and Peace along this way of life I live,
but return soon I will home to my parents, and for a while stay.

and record I will in writing by hand,
or on this usually daily blog typed,
my thoughts and experiences since travel started,
My Digital Davinci's Decoders insight manifests flight.

Artist's take artistic license,so are often seen as insane,
but the artist's eye's secret is often the glimpse of others so inane.

then observations transformed with words, oil, and charcoal amoung other things including digital media they present,
and even more of life's experiences are uncovered some appearing heaven inspired and therefore sent

such blessings make such fine art, even when coming from misery,
the experience you can clearly, hear feel or see,

and if an artist and into darkness you have strayed,
quickly turn and walk the other way,
Do Not be like so many oddly checking out at twenty-seven,
a myth that remains while they did not stay.

the art carries on,
hung on a wall, in a computer or all together in song,
digital diary dictating dreams of the future,
let's do thing right for now on, and forgive all wrongs.

Let Go and walk through the storms,
that life always throws at each of us,
find like minded people,
and in the people all should trust.

It is enjoyable to use language as art,
and think of words however perfect or not,
and place them together with meaning and clarity,
so as you read your in my head with precise same thought.

Can words paint a portrait,
on the canvas of the mind?
Not only words, paintings, and music,
but all art provokes deep thought all of the time.

marking time,
stopping time,
analyzing time,
in the eye of the artist,
crystalized time.

one perspective of a million where there is clarity,
to the artist a masterpiece unfolds,
DaVinci, Rembrandt, VanGogh, Picasso, Mikeman, Warhol, Ligorio, Michael Angelo,
inspires so many others numbers of artists a digital secret will never be told.

SUB CHORUS:

There is really no trick to art,
just throw down what you feel in your heart,
let that lead your way,
it's the only way to start.

There is really no trick to art,
just throw down what you feel in your heart,
let that lead your way,
it's the only way to start.

Digital mining, we mine away, a market place this net,
but art is a better examination of a certain point in time,
it ads the personal touch,
which is missing in the digital life.

You do not need a decoder,
of any single type to have the blessing that is Love,
and Peace can follow right alongside always,
as immense as the space of the universe ever expanding, just look above.

Be grounded no matter the circumstance,
that no matter in which time will see you now util then,
stay passionately in love with life you've been so offered,
this moment now a new life shall begin.

You only become what you dream if that dream you pursue,
it's no longer time to be the player,
but rather a time in which,
we are each the chosen few.

let the word "FEW" have new meaning,
f from Family and e w from New,
a new Genesis before us today,
we, each, the chosen, few.

Start again anew.

Peace

STRANGE SOUNDS ACROSS THE WORLD BEING HEARD, HAARP, GLOBAL WARMING, COMMUNICATION

I added this to the article below, only because the ARTICLES BOTH are linked through THE DISCUSSION  H.A.A.R.P., and I simply thought this would further offer cross referencing material for research, not to lean one way or another with influence, but simply to further educate

ORIGINAL START TO ARTICLE:

STRANGE SOUNDS ACROSS THE WORLD BEING HEARD

HAARP, GLOBAL WARMING, COMMUNICATION, GREEN ERA, TECHNOLOGY, NAVY ARMY, AIR FORCE, MARINES, PEACE, WAR GAMING, TACTICS, PSYCHOLOGY, LASER WEAPON

READ THESE LINKS FIRST...THEN SEE WHAT YOU THINK...HERE IS A QUOTE:

"Beason said that one blue sky idea of his own he tagged "the voice from heaven". By tuning the resonance of a laser onto the Earth's ionosphere, you can create audible frequencies. Like some boom box in the sky, the laser-produced voice could bellow from above down to the target below: "Put down your weapons.""

Navy's Laser Weapons Just 2 Years Away, Admiral Says

If you do not want to read what I wrote, "skip and scroll" and click the links herein, you can read for yourself, assimilate, and certainly with a high probability factor, likely come to the same conclusion.

I actually prefer you read it that way, before having been influenced by my own writings.

You should really read everything here before making any assumption of what you may or may not know or yet realize.

People are funny creatures because we seem to grasp a hold of the old with everything and do not accept the new until we experience it.

You do not have to experience what is in these pages, read it and I think for certain you will be a believer.

With Acceptance we move forward, but how is the question and in what direction?

The time to assess that further is always upon us, and it is upon us now more then ever as we thrust into the Green Era..

There are truly multiple threats on the collective international radar now, and we need to focus our collective energies into productive channels that reshape our entire world.

That is where we truly are.

Enough preaching...read what follows with an open mind.

Pay attention to the web addresses, the sources of information.

They are both notable and perhaps not as notable.

The consistencies are indisputable.

That quote was exactly what I was looking for and believed I may find as it was what I thought anyway.

The noises I have heard all over the net,  sounds like my guitar amplifier on overdrive with distortion, then slowed to a slower wave length full of deep hums that I have heard, and if recorded and cranked up in wave intensity, like my guitar and amp again, it gets a deafening loudness and cranked even more so again becomes a ringing screeching ear piercing feedback noise.

The guitar and amp, is basic sound waves at their best. Amplification and Oscillations and focusing through the conversion of electrical power and sensors to produce an output of sound through technology (usually solid state electronics) that may be manipulated.

Just do it on a larger scale, and now we are going to use some slightly different techniques and apparatus, the links will show you more of the fascinating science.

I simply added this, because it is through the guitar and wave manipulation of recorded sound, that I can make these sounds and do all the time while at home recording my music, so it makes one understand waves and electronics even more so when you are recording and mixing music.

I have also worked with computers all my life, be it building  them, repairing them, upgrading them, etc.

Both are very fun, and when utilized together, a wonderful way to express something artistic, but in that art is the very essence of some basic and powerful scientific principles in action around me all the time.

This lends to much more keen awareness and visionary thoughts and understanding of other sciences, and I study them often, as they too are an integral part to some my artistic science, mainly recording and Engineering...well sounds some may like and some may not, that just comes with the territory and matters not too much at all in the bigger scheme of life.

I have heard these noises (only online thus far) and that is what me think of high energy and the waves being used as I have studied...the molecules get so excited that they vibrate faster, disturb or excite the area they are in as the energy may dissipate and make the sound waves we hear.

I have heard huge transformers in storms in Fairfax with massive lightening in Fairfax, Virginia U.S.A. and the transformer sounded as it was growing in energy consumption to the point of overload, the entire sky around me and my friend lit up, as we pulled over the storm was so intense, and we even ducked our heads because where we parked just off route 50 for safety was close to this transformer. This was roughly 1995.

The sounds are the same, however on a different scale, and that noise that day and the way it lit the sky around us with a green/blue glow was a wild experience.

Just an simple electrical overload of a transformer that day, nothing more, but the sound and impression have never left my mind one iota, whatever an iota is.

With the new sounds and science evolving, the clouds, the air, and even the different levels of the atmosphere can be affected as needed or tested, and act like a giant membrane (speaker) and vibrate and increase the sound of the transmission or disturbance and therefore amplify the audible aspects and be focused as desired depending on the specific threat.

I am not writing this as a scare tactic, and perhaps what is happening is fully or partially a publicity stunt, however, seeking logical answers is more important as this appears to be a real phenomena yet explained or attributed to, lets say HAARP for example, and these few readings all make perfect sense.

We have worked on this for decades, we have billions of dollars invested, it could be a key to military tactical planning, and keeping peace, not engaging in war as a tyrant, but keeping peace.

This technology exists and is not leaving anytime soon, if ever while man i on Earth, so we educate ourselves and trust in elected officials and the government to use these weapons for protection and keeping peace, rather a simple philosophy.

As we were first in The United States with an atomic bomb, so to we appear to be leading the way with this technology.

All this does is say abundantly clear that we have it, it exists, and its just a matter of time before someone else has it as well, as that is the demand of the military and science in the face of adversity.

Here are links from all reputable sites that further let you see some of the history, philosophy, and design of these very capable new age weapons.

If you researched yourself you do not have to listen or read or agree with a word I have typed, as again it is abundantly clear that we have these.

I do have a few interesting stories that are perfectly explained with this knowledge, and it just makes me feel 100% that we are at least in the phase of dialing this weaponry in or focusing it and understanding just how to manipulate it.

All weapons get tested, right?

Nevada desert ring a bell...or sound any trumpets?

There is a lot of Psychology in the names used of this weaponry, because ultimately , the ideal is defeating the enemy before the conflict, second, making the enemy immobile, and third if we are going to engauge, then the best and old school philosophy of thought with military tactics is the element of surprise, which can stay on top of this list still with this weapon in all reality.

Some names herein the links are, "The Omega Project" (from the Bible, I am the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end (Rev. 1-8), and there was another name derived from the bible which I do not currently recalled, but it is included in the links somewhere.

Anyone surprised?, and not about the names but the existence of this machine and the science behind it.

It is capable of many many things, of which I will not elaborate at this point.

It is not only a military weapon.

Lasers, holograms, and cloud/quantum computing along with better science and technology have advanced us into a new realm a lot of folks have failed to see the "bigger" picture of in reality.

This is all a part of The Green Era philosophy that is happening all around us in every marketplace and every nation. That is how far our reach has become across the globe, and all in an instant today.

I cut a new tune, and within minutes it can be heard all over the world...that is incredible and not something I never contemplated as a child when it was all vinyl and cassettes...and that in itself is incredible technology, yet super outdated.

The new portable storage we have is nothing compared to what IBM has worked on as it was reported the last few days.

We have the ability when further refined for molecular data storage to now take only 12 atoms as opposed the 1,000,000 it takes currently to hold the same amount of data.

That is a massive leap forward and when that comes to a fruition in the market place it just accelerates the entire technological curve again.

Think it today and we may be able to do it.

That is not  joke anymore as nearly anything is seemingly possible.

This actually compliments my "Green Era" philosophy which has received attention which you may read below if interested, although it simply refers to the advancement of technology science and computing that we should use to be more efficient, make new market places, and clean our environment swiftly through this well needed and perhaps country saving philosophy.

http://www1.eere.energy.gov/wip/news_detail.html?news_id=16404

Technology typically spins off from N.A.S.A. and the Military, as we are all well aware.

We enjoy the fruits of this on a daily basis with our computers, cell phones, cars, and on and on.

This weapon, as hideous as it may be to some, will be more efficient when further refined, advance technology even further as it no doubt already has, and cost less to maintain then what we think of as or conventional Army today.

That will promote Peace and let our forces focus more on being a part of the Peace keeping.

Economics always plays a role in design and development all the way through to maintenance and operation of any great new power, and therefore, if this id less expensive and more efficient in many aspects, it makes sense if you like it or not.

I accept that we live in the World as it is, I understand war, I do not like war, I am from a military family, have many military friends, and many scientist friends in great places.

I am innately aware through both experience and education, of the fact that war exists, and although I pray no man ever has to experience it, the reality is that is has existed since before recorded time.

Recorded meaning leaving language in a record for coming generation, there was a time of man on Earth with no recorded language, however, I feel certain there were at least a few squabbles here and there, as this is what happens with people.

Who amoungst us has had to go out of their way to learn at least a considerable amount about modern day warfare?

It's on television nearly everyday, it's in our video games, it's in our past, and hopefully it now stops and stays there.

Perhaps this will be the best invention when the world realizes this is not something to toy with, we need to maintain peace, work hard collectively together and forge ahead into this Green Era.

Or?

This is quite amazing stuff to read and it goes unsaid that this is a direct result of  a well coordinated effort.

My point there is that if we choose a direction in which to proceed collectively, and we focus our energies together, we too are powerful. These principles actually coincide precisely with the very invention itself on a design principle level.

If you want to know about me, read my blog.

I do not know things for no reason at all.

Our technology is awesome, now lets put it even further to use promoting worldwide peace, which we are achieving slowly, but working in that correct direction.

The soldiers I know are not war mongers nor do they wish war on a single soul.

They are great men like any of you know if you are reading this, and they desperately desire peace and dedicate their lives to that, but the human condition makes for the Ultimate Paradox which we call WAR.

When we engage in war, it may appear as there is a winner and a loser, but ultimately through war we all lose something, and we can just be smart enough now to side step war, focus on technology and communication, build better inter-country and intra-country infrastructures, and seek peace together.

There is no need for compromise when everyone agrees in Peace, and it's tough to argue against it.

Under some of my music which is at times super liberal and hippie like in nature, is a man who too fully understand war and peace, weaponry, tactics and most at least basic philosophies therein.

I do not wish to know some of these things, as some are not so much by choice byt life experience and exposure.

That in itself is neither a good or bad thing in particular, it is just a fact.

Read these headlines and reports next, just more proof slowly revealed as testing and demonstration are needed.

We have drones that roam the world. Do not think for one second that that is our only card in a deck of military science.

As one things gets refines, there is ALWAYS something coming along behind it. That is the very essence of innovative science and technology.

END EDIT

So a great advertising campaign for a movie...I kind of doubt it (sarcasm)...more like a great and awesome advertising for the military.

Connecting the dots gets easier and easier everyday as well, as we have so much information at our fingertips, and we have to use that information diligently, or it is wasted.

The new Internet proposals are interesting and I am just keeping an open mind to each philosophy, each with it's own inherent pros and cons.

I want to write and blog and make music the rest of my life.

I do not think those "Rights" should ever be taken away.

If I had to fight to protect this country in dire times, even in my condition which is not well at all with a broken back, I would still offer up my life, because I am an ant in a massive colony that is not dependent on me solely, but collectively with the rest of us, and sometimes sacrifices are made by men who have volunteered to do so.

We are at a place in time where we can have less loss of life, perhaps even no loss of life, with these conflicts, and that may be the very onus of Peace itself.

Peace does not exist in a vacuum, it exists in a manifold alongside it's opposite, that to is just a simple fact.

War has proven time and time again what it is capable of, this is now a time for true Peace to stand tall and be shared.

Let's all choose Peace.

I hope that connected a few dots for you.

Love to know your thoughts.

ANOTHER MAN'S SHOES ~ LYRICS ~ MOBIUSTRIPZ

I have been walking now for 44 years,
thought I knew so much at merely 18,
and when I am 87,
44 will be a fading dream.

The things I have seen,
a life of experience my professor,
I would like to share these things,
Slowly become God's confessor.

Choices we make pave the way down the road to all,
and never look back be proud where you stand,
travels teach you cultures and language and that we are alike,
Not much difference anywhere across this land.

The largest difference is the suffering,
which seems so magnified right now,
digital technology streaming it live 24/7,
with this technology, just makes me wonder how?

How can those with so much,
have lesser compassion for their fellow man,
and those with nothing who have suffered through entire lives,
give away all to help another man, the chosen plan.

Detachment from our toys,
is really not that hard once the choice is made,
traveling lighter through this space,
with other folks let those toys be played.

Becoming a slave to the desires of possession in life,
it is not hard to see how one becomes possessed,
this materialistic plastic selfish way of the past,
just let go have no regrets.

Chorus: 2 stanzas

Do so when your ready,
pare possessions down,
do so responsibly,
and along help others out.

Do not resist change,
rather embrace it, you get closer to the light,
and the answers that are keys too freedom,
awash in it's delight.

And judge not lest ye be judged,
simply put you know only where you have been,
not ever truly walking in another's shoes,
this plastic world so pretend.

Instead lend ear and listen,
outstretch hand of love and friendship,
learn, stay keen, share your experience,
we all part of the same kinship.

Offer what you can,
from pocket, mind, and soul
never jeopardizing yourself, family, and others,
who yet may not know which way yet to go.

Help all seek their guidance,
if for this help they ask,
Clean up as you move along,
do not leave debris so scattered in the near future coming soon to pass.

A bed and a safe place at night,
and meals made with love offered throughout the day,
friendship and lives shared together,
is really not such all that bad a way.

The love we have within desires to shine brightly,

the shedding of the material weight brings lightness for easy travel,
the love we have within desires to shine brightly,
the stress starts to slip away and a finer life then ever will unravel.

Start anew as Spring comes soon,
or stay as you are if happiness you have found,
Just always try to reach further then imagined,
with a hand that's always reaching and stretching and helping out.

Technology Challenge ~ Ceramic Automobile Heater, featuring: FoMoCo, Henry Ford, Thomas Alva Edison, Roy Firestone, John Burroughs, and R.J.H. DeLoach, all better known as "The Vagabonds"

Technology Challenge ~ Ceramic Automobile Heater

Featuring: FoMoCo, Henry Ford, Thomas Alva Edison, Roy Firestone, John Burroughs, and R.J.H. DeLoach, all better known as "The Vagabonds"

Simple idea for the Winter.

A ceramic car heater, simply to pre-heat a cold car and defrost the windows (front, rear, and side) and run it on an App as well as have a secondary batter that charges of the alternator but is only used on this circuit when the App is active and otherwise is wired to alternate with the starting circuit battery (we will simply refer to this one as the primary battery).

It would be simple to set the App around your work schedule or on a temperature sensor and time, so that it is only utilized when needed.

The batteries should both be used in the charging circuit just to keep the secondary battery in use so it stays healthy, and may also be wired as a back up in emergency situations to drive the car to safety in the event of a charging system failure, as most cars will run off of the battery if so designed.

The main consideration is placement of the extra battery and the ceramic heater.

Ceramic heaters heat quickly, are inexpensive, efficient, and do not have to use warm circulating coolant to produce heat, of course.

The heater(s) would not have to be large, will never drain the primary battery, and will never be hot enough to be of concern.

This circuit could also heat the seat(s) of choice so the car is toasty in the worst weather.

The best feature may be rarely used, but a life saver, as the App could override the starting circuit in an emergency situation (works with or without cell reception as this should be tied for close proximity blue tooth operation, call for help (if a signal to the cell phone is available, and also GPS the coordinates to help, and keep you warm in case you are stranded with a vehicle that will not start or run but still has the electrical circuit operable.

I have an old car and the belt broke a couple of days ago.

This is not the first time as the belt tensioner recently went bad I had replaced it and the belt.

This time the idler pulley bolt snapped, and fortunately I had my extra battery still in the trunk as a safety precaution, so it would not go far, but it went the 3 miles I needed to go to get home safely, avoid calling AAA, and it only took 5 minutes to open the trunk, get the wrench, change the battery, and put the other one in the trunk, and then the additional time to drive home safely.

That was what gave me this idea to post this , not to mention having been a mechanic a long time, which due to health reasons I can only do very very light work now, I have always wondered why ceramic heaters are not utilized more often as well as secondary batteries, which are often on larger trucks.

It is an excellent set up, could save lives, and would cost next to nothing in design and the cost of the inexpensive battery.

So who is on it ?

Ford (FoMoCo) gets my vote, as my Great Grandfather, R.J.H. DeLoach, was a close friend to Henry Ford.

This is a fascinating quick read:

http://blogs.georgiasouthern.edu/zachsnews/2009/06/10/gift-from-henry-ford-finds-its-way-to-henderson-library/

That link shows a chair he was given as a gift from his friend Henry Ford, as well as other great history of The Vagabonds.

If you want to find out who they were, just go to the link...pretty neat history to check up on.

My Great Grandfather is in the picture of the Grist Mill Wheel and is furthest on the left and seated.

So what do you say Ford Motor Company?...These guys would do it today and I am sure if you find this, you may as well.

By the way, my forst ca was a 1968 Torino GT. It was red with white C-Stripes, and my car that just broke down is a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2, really a Mazda.

It is a wonderful little car, peppy, usually very dependable, and reminds me of my first car as it is red as well, maybe I'll add some C-Stripes, but I doubt it.

Left to right, seated is R.J.H. DeLoach, the taller of the two men behind him is Edison and the shorter is Firestone's son, on top is left, John Burroughs and right, Henry Ford, and standing on the right is Firestone.

That is my Great Grandfather with my Mother Betty, my Father Donald, and my oldest sister Susan.

And the grist mill wheel of time marches on, perhaps this will be one of my new song topics...so look for a posting of lyrics if interested followed by a song, in a day, week or year from now.

Here is a great pic of " The Vagabonds" and their respective signatures. (image taken fro link below)

Text and picture above from link below which you can read in it's entirety:

"R.J.H. DeLoach, at right, with (left to right) Edward H. Gurley, John Burroughs, Thomas A. Edison, Henry Ford, Harvey S. Firestone Photo courtesy of Carol H. Wellington"
http://research.amnh.org/burroughs/wakerobin_pdfs/WR-41-1_summer_08_-6.pdf

It would be wonderful to be a fly on the wall and listen to these fellows.

I will post some additional pictures as I process them, and they are a letter from Edison written in pencil, a typed letter signed by Firestone on his corporate letterhead, this same original picture as above, a letter hand written by John Burroughs and what ever else I can take some pictures of when I have the time.

Hope you enjoyed the post and will share this history which is slowly coming back together as the internet's resources have grown and the dots keep getting connected.

I contacted:

"Welcome to Zach's News! This blog serves as the newsletter for the Zach S. Henderson Library of Georgia Southern University. Please visit our library website at http://library.georgiasouthern.edu The earlier version of our newsletter, Current Issues Only, is available at http://library.georgiasouthern.edu/cio/cio.html"

That is from the blog page, so I hope to hear from them soon, and perhaps make a visit.

I have wanted to study my Great Grandfather's work because a lot of it is in Georgia and I also believe Chicago, and his work is wonderful, well written articulate scientific factual studies that are perhaps more current today in philosophy which we have strayed far to far away from.

He wrote a research paper for the PGA on how to grow grass for their golf courses, and also how to raise sheep and make it economical and profitable.

He was a botanist and a professor and held other notable titles and did fantastic work for men like this, his close friends.

As he too was a naturalist and a scientist, which I am as well (runs in the blood no doubt), I feel certain he would have great ideas about today's real pressing issues, and I think of him almost daily because he inspires me so.

When I read some of his writing, it is like what I have written on my finer work where I have really taken time studying, proofing, editing, etc. to make a perfectly clear final product.

Writing is a passion of mine and has just grown on me with age.

He played guitar too, as I do, and again, it is quite amazing when you know these things and just naturally gravitate to the same exact things.

If anyone reads this that would like to contribute, please do as I plan on always leaving my blogs open and ready to be added to or edited as needed to further put together a larger picture.

Thanks for spending your time here today reading this.

That is a link to my blog and I have been studying and observing changes I have seen as of recent.

When you read that first, what follows will make much more sense.

I know where a GREAT and large natural bee population is that is unknown and I would like to share that with you if you get back with me. Perhaps it can be monitored safely, and should be. I live close to orchards, both abandoned and operable, lots of farming, and in a city that is part of the vast array of The Chesapeake Bay Watersheds drainage contributors.

I was born in Camphill, Pa., grew up in Alexandria, Va., a stones throw from Washington D.C., where my Father, a retired West Point Colonel was stationed at the pentagon, and now reside in beautiful Cumberland, Maryland.

So as I stated, I live in Cumberland, Maryland, and I hike often when well abled enough to do so, and I have always been an naturalist like my Great Grandfather, R.J.H. DeLoach, as well as have a degree in a science, and a high scientific aptitude, so therefore, I am simply curious my nature and seek answers often.

He was friends with, " The Vagabonds" (Ford , Edison, Firestone, and Burroughs) and it is from there I take my name John, as he was fully named Robert John Henderson DeLoach, and was a professor, a scientist and a naturalist.

(Not in the original letter:

The following link contains an idea I have as well as some information about those fine men, and some wonderful pictures

close )

He inspires me, as do my parents.

He even authored a biography on John Burroughs that is available on Google Books for free in it's entirety.

It is titled, "Rambles with Burroughs".

He did a lot of work that it looks to me should be looked at now.

He understood natural methods for high productivity and efficiency, and it seems to me we have collectively strayed far from that path and are paying a high price for it now.

I understand this too, as it is just in my blood through my family and I am naturally drawn to this as well as keenly aware and sensitive as well as incredibly curious about these issues.

That link above is an article I authored that was featured by The United States Department of Energy.

You may enjoy reading that as well, and it does fit in to the philosophy I have outlined in that publication, which is really a second but overall topic in that letter, and since it's publication, there has been quite a shift towards the philosophy I believe I first came up with, and they must too at the US Dept. of Energy, or I doubt they would have bothered to publish me otherwise.

I define the Green Era there very simply, and I here the green this and the green that, bit never the Green Era, until I wrote of it, however I am well aware more then likely a million others may have had the same notion, as is so often the case. I felt honoured to be published, as I write often, and enjoy it immensely, but even more deeply find it is a great catalyst to change, as most folks do not bother to take the time to express what they should share with others, especially those that help mold and shape our collective future.

So again, that was a pleasant surprise, but the point of it was to help others and make a change so that when I am long gone, others may benefit, instead of, "be in a larger pickle", so to speak.

I am just writing off the cuff in lay terms so please excuse the unprofessional voice you may detect in my words, as I am ill, going through disability, and the good thing there is I have lots of time to research, observe, and think, and you can see I try to maximize my time, which often includes quick off the cuff writing, and using lay terms to communicate with more people.

I am sending this email to the Pennsylvania DNR, The Maryland DNR, and perhaps elsewhere.

I enjoy your websites often and find great caring people in your professional communitty and have received wonderful replies when I have written to you  before.

Please read my blog (the first link) and it's over all hypotheses will sum up the entire posting thus far.

It is a work in progress, hypothetical but understandable, and I am looking into these things more as I research and talk with others.

Switching subjects, I have a ton of the Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs here in Cumberland, and so do all my friends.

That was what first made me hypothesize a few things last year and this year combined, as well as do a lot research and speak to friends.

I have been watching them closely and I have done some things around my home taht I reported in that particular blog entry, and those adjustments both simple and fruitful seem to help quite a bit in regaurds to the "stink bug" issues at hand and I think help restore a natural balance.

I do not think restoring a natural balance is so difficult, as much as understanding the bigger picture is for most folks, as well as once that "bigger picture" is even more well described and defined through more research and comparative analysis, but waiting too long to act in the ways we do know help, may make a larger problem out of an already huge problem.

I hope you will connect the dots, perhaps much better then I have written about the there thus far, as that is a work in progress, that I will study each day, and hopefully gather feedback on.

Do you have any links I may post to my blog so that my readers can, through your sites, help you gather even more data?

I thought perhaps it is best to share these thoughts with you now, as they seem likely very legitimate, and perhaps your colleagues may enjoy investigating these ideas as well.

I am proud of Pennsylvania and Maryland to be in the lead in the environmental future of this country, and I think it is the most vital cause to our collective future, as we must do all we can in our power naturally to maintain these gifts we share in abundance here in the Western parts of the states, especially, where it is more rural.

Hiking in old growth and virgin areas like Cranesville Swamp or Buchannon State Forest, well there is nothing else like it, and I hope thee things do not change for 1000 more years to come.

Those places are both perfect examples of a balance between man and nature.

The history of the C.C.C. is amazing, especially in Buchannon State Forest, and I think we need a new program similar to that.

You may forward this to the F.D.A. and the E.P.A., as well if you think it would be fruitful in any way.

One last comment, just a thought that came to mind.

As a Domestic Scientist, "as I was referred to by this particular comapny, Jung Seed Company, I was offered two hybrid Lilacs, and I took the offer. They are hybrids of American and Chinese Lilacs.

Is that O.K.? The thought never occurred to me before, but now after these things I have read, well, two things, are there regulations about that, and are the plants I have actually "legal" I wonder now?

As a naturalist I was enthusiastic about the offer, however now nearly two years later, I wonder if I planted what was stated to me and it makes me contemplate the possibility that a company like that could possibly use plants...well for God knows what.

Just a final thought...Thinking of bees and pollination..well, I could mess up other natural Lilacs in the area if there is a cross pollination with my hybrids, and that never occurred to me until my research on the bees, in particular, so I though I had better ask now while my thought is fresh.

Lastly, another thought, am I allowed to keep bees in the city limits where I live, if I so choose, as I think it could be both beneficial, but threatening too, and I am allergic to them, or was terribly as a child, i have not been stung in a long time.

I did have more honey bees this year then I have seen in several years, just by the simple things I explained in my blog posting, and the wildlife in my little 1/10 acre  yard was astonishing, however, my pear tree had only a few pears this last season, and it usually has 1,000's...may just be it;s cycle, but this is the first time in ten  years I have resided here that it's production was almost 0 (zero)...even when its a low level harvest, it still typically bears a few hundred pears, however it is an old tree and I have not yet pruned it, as I have to study when it is appropriate to do it, as well as get healthier so that I can do it, as I cannot afford to ire a professional, but I do want to do it soon.

I hope you will enjoy the reading at my blog, and please contact me through email or by phone.

Sincerely,

John Stephen Swygert

Hi John,

Thanks for your email.  I enjoyed reading your blog.  Decades ago it seemed like all naturalists kept great records of what they observed in a given day, and even published their observations, even if all they were doing was sitting on a bench and noting the species of butterflies that flew by, the time of day, etc.  It was written in a way that anyone could understand and enjoy, which unfortunately cannot generally be said about today’s scientific publications.  So I enjoyed reading your blog as it reminded me of a time where scientific literature was fun to read (and to write).

I don’t know that I can do an adequate job of addressing all of the points you raised, but some of my thoughts are as follows:

I also am not a fan of pesticides, as I also believe that they have a variety of negative impacts on invertebrates.  I am however, a licensed pesticide applicator, and I have used them in my work to try to control invasive plants for the benefit of native insects.  I guess I feel like sometimes there is a need for them, and I don’t understand farming well enough to evaluate that need.  However, I think it is in everyone’s best interest (vertebrate and invertebrate) to support local farms that are pesticide-free and grow a variety of crops, as the latter seems to alleviate the pest problems to some extent as well as the need for pesticides.  I think people are doing this more and more and starting to pay more attention to what they are eating and to how the food got to their table (as well as what it went through before it got there!).  I attached a couple of papers that I think may interest you on farming and the importance of native pollinators.  These are not what I would describe as easy bedtime reading but they are interesting and address some of the issues that you so passionately address in your blog.  I agree that nature will always try to strike a balance, but people have altered the natural world to such an extent that I think we need to step up and do more to help set things right (or at least, make things better).

I don’t know what the regulations are in your area for keeping bees.  You might try contacting the Maryland Bee Keeper’s Association.  But also, I would encourage you to check out the Xerces Society website, as they focus much of their work on native pollinators and might have information on attracting native bees to your area.  You don’t need a permit for that, as most native bees are solitary and don’t form big hives like honey bees do.  There are a lot of places now where you can buy or get directions on how to make little bee boxes for native bees (I have a couple in my backyard).  If you Google this topic I think you will find it fascinating and have more information to share with people on native pollinators. As for the lilacs, I actually had a talk with our botanist who informed me that we only have two species of lilacs in the US and both are non-native – one is European and the other is Asian.  Both were introduced and I’m certain that people have been planting these for decades.  I don’t think your two plants are causing environmental chaos but remember that in the future you can always chose to buy natives.

And gosh, what can I say about stink bugs?  I have heard people describe them as the modern-day plague.  The fruit idea is interesting but I’d keep an eye on your traps as lots of insects are attracted to rotting fruit, including butterflies.  You don’t want to have too much by-catch and start killing the native insects that you want to have around.  The light trap is a favorite of moth researchers, and used A LOT to trap moths, so keep on eye on those as well.  Moths and butterflies are two important groups of pollinators that you really don’t want to kill.  Killing a few stink bugs in a trap probably won’t do much to alter the population of stink bugs, but many butterflies and moths are rare and removing individuals from the populations of some species could negatively impact entirely populations if they are small to begin with.  There is a book – I will have to look it up for you – on the negative impact that artificial lights can have on insects of all kinds, particularly moths and beetles I would think, some of the most common insects at porch lights.

DNR does have a link that people can go to if they want to report sightings of rare species.  It is:http://www.dnr.state.md.us/wildlife/Plants_Wildlife/reportinginst.asp.  And if you are unsure about which species of animals or plants are rare, check out the plant and animal lists, also on the DNR website.

Animals:

Plants:

We don’t track common species, but I encourage everyone to get in touch with their inner Aldo Leopold and start writing down their observations.  People always tell me that “they used to see species X in this area all the time, and now it’s just gone.”  That kind of thing always makes me sad, especially when I am out looking for a species myself, in a place where “it had always been.”  Sometimes I think, have I missed my chance?  Is this species gone now from this area?  Will I ever see it? If all people started writing these things down and sharing the information, maybe it would encourage more people to really take notice of what is going on around them and take action to preserve what we still have left.

Kudos to you for using your voice and sharing your thoughts and experiences.  I wish you improved health as well as happy internet searching.

Be well and thanks for sharing the links to your blog!  I’ll be sure to check in again.

Sincerely,

MY REPLY:

Jen,

Thanks so much for your time and dedication to spend answering my email and it's many questions so quickly and poignantly.

I will carouse the links you have suggested of course, and appreciate the pointing out of the traps likely catching some good critters, not that any one is better then the other, but the stink bugs get the bottom of my list...simply because they are a complained about nuisance by so many, as well as what they can quickly do to crops.

I am a moth and butterfly lover in particular as well as a bird lover, so I of course do not want to jeopardize any others.

The stink bug breeding cycle and output in a short span is rather interesting.

It seems to me, after studying the life cycle and reproduction, and then doing a little math, that taking out a few stink bugs may make the difference between control of the population vs. a proliferation.

Looking forward to this years observations coming in the Spring in particular and I will report back what I am able to observe.

I also liked what you said about the butterflies and the older style notes.

Perhaps soon these data sets can more quickly be shared for the individual wanting to examine that data, as well as be posted to the DNR site so that they can be viewed as you spoke of, easily.

The amount of data being archived on the net now, especially physical data transferred to the net, is staggering.

Hopefully with further standardization, and/or, perhaps browsers where we can change the view of the data sets to our individual liking, more people will find easy access that brings them into the fold of Ecology.

Science is fun, and as you well know, is liked by many more folks when it is made easier to understand.

I posted your wonderful replay again to my blog but left off your email thus far, unless you prefer I include it.

I prefer correspondence to the blog come to me of course, and that responses to DNR can be sent to their main email address, as that is what I had to do and I want to respect that is the way the protocol appears.

I was pleased to see this email I sent get directly to you.

The DNR especially in my experience always gives a direct answer and always addresses the questions they can and are honest as can be about their answers. Sometimes that includes stating there is no answer.

The honesty and response time and specifity to stay on topic are very appreciated, and I think by sharing in this way, we are all able to find answers more quickly.

I would appreciate if you keep this in mind, and also if you are able to send any updates or suggestions, links, others experiences even if being both failures and successes.

This will help the reader base more so and hopefully we can find a simple solution that solves the issue, does no harm to the environment or other species, and is inexpensive and easily maintained.

I think if I had not written, well, how many moths and butterflies and praying mantises I could have wiped out, like you said, really affecting the overall results I found thus far last year.

I think communicating and planning in steps and patience are always critical, and it is easy to miss a seemingly simple mistake as I admittedly did, and I am glad your expertise and education caught me on that one !

As I do not want to take anymore of your valuable time, I appreciate again, very much, that you took time for writing a candid and honest answer that was simple and direct.

I can write in lay terms or technical terms.

The funny thing is on that topic, if one chooses to write in lay terms, the professional often look the other way without a second thought, and if you write in scientific terms, the lay person moves on as well.

A larger audience is more likely to exist in the "lay" area and therefore be well read by that audience, to whom I typically write, not to mention, it is easier to write this way, at least on line.

As this evolves, that is if it needs to evolve because there is no change in the proliferation and control of their population of course, then I may compile charts of data and the likes, if so needed to make a clear observation during my tests.

Really, it is all in good fun and I hope "fruitful", to use a bit of a pun to close out this thank you letter.

Does the DNR have folks that come out to the schools and address different grades.

This area is so pristine that I feel it would be a wonderful program if one does not exist, and may just be the spark to the thought of some youth to pursue a rewarding career similar to yours, where you are making a difference and they realize they can too.

My father is instrumental in MathCounts in Virginia, and I have seen some incredible stuff from the youth simply by assisting my dad and observing and sharing some of my Father's fantastic friendships with some super dynamic professional and some incredibly smart children.

Literacy and education and communication are keys I am always trying my best to weave into my collective writings such as these, but certainly not in my poetry or musical expression, per se, or not so directly anyway

I have included your wonderful words of expertise and advice in your reply in it's entirety to my blog postings.

Thanks so much,

Steve

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your very nice response.I will check in on your site from time to time as I will be curious to see how your experiments are going.

I don’t necessarily need to know where the bees are located, although I agree that it can be really neat to see them in action.  I have had a couple of people in the past send me pictures of honey bee swarms and they are a fascinating thing to see.  I am glad you are getting a chance to enjoy them.

I’ll be honest that classroom visits are very rare.  There are only 20 or so people in the Natural Heritage Program and SOOO many schools.  It is hard to say yes to one teacher and no to others, and it would just be impossible to accommodate every teacher who expressed interest.  DNR as a whole, and particularly the Wildlife Division, offers many other educational opportunities that people can participate in, though.  Check out the following link for details:http://www.dnr.maryland.gov/wildlife/Education/index.asp.  Also, many of our State Parks have great nature centers and offer programs for kids and adults.   You will probably find more to do in the spring, summer and fall than you will in the middle of January, but take a look at the website http://www.dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/outdooreduc.asp for some information on outdoor educational opportunities through the Maryland State Parks system.  There is a lot to participate in if you know where to look!  Be sure to check in the spring when things start flying and blooming and emerging from a long winter’s rest.

Yesterday I saw grasshopper nymphs and other small creatures as I was working down on the lower shore.  Some of us apparently have had quite enough rest and are ready to get moving.

Cheers,
Jen
